DAP adviser Lim Guan Eng, flanked by secretary-general Loke Siew Fook and new party chairman Gobind Singh Deo, reiterated that he wanted party members to decide his fate in the top leadership, not outsiders.

SHAH ALAM
Newly appointed DAP adviser Lim Guan Eng has urged party members to close ranks under the leadership of secretary-general Loke Siew Fook.

After only securing 26th spot in today’s central executive committee (CEC) elections, Lim said he respected the decision of the delegates.

“I respect the decision made by the party delegates. Like I said before, I will let party members, rather than outsiders, decide my fate.

“Again, I thank those who voted for me. Now we need to unite under the leadership of Loke,” he told a press conference after Loke announced the leadership lineup for the 2025-2028 term.

Loke, the transport minister, will serve a second term as DAP secretary-general while Lim has been replaced as party chairman by Damansara MP Gobind Singh Deo.

Gobind, who is also the digital minister, secured the most number of votes in today’s CEC elections.

Lim, a former finance minister and Penang chief minister, became DAP chairman in 2022 after handing over the secretary-general’s post to Loke. He had been the party’s secretary-general for 17 years before that.

There had been speculation in the lead up to today’s elections that he might not secure enough votes from within the CEC to retain the chairmanship of the party.

Separately, Loke expressed confidence in the new CEC lineup, saying it provided fresh leadership opportunities for the elected leaders.

“The strength of the party lies in the entire leadership and the entire (DAP membership). We work as a team.

“These changes are made to ensure that more leaders are given opportunities to work for the party and show their leadership qualities,” he said.
