Umno and MCA flags
“Back then, MCA was blamed because of you (Umno). We were labelled as traitors to the Chinese, accused of being too close to you - and these very accusations came from them (the outsiders).
“Now that these people are advising you to expel MCA, we are waiting for it,” said the Ayer Hitam MP.
Wee made these remarks in a joint interview with Chinese dailies. A video of the interview was uploaded to his Facebook page today.
In the video, he highlighted that these “outsiders” now hold government positions alongside Umno, which explains their newfound closeness.
“We are neither envious nor jealous,” he said.
Although Wee did not explicitly name them, his reference to “outsiders” was clearly directed at MCA’s rival, the DAP.
Who are the ‘outsiders’?
Wee also noted that when certain Umno leaders make statements, it is often these “outsiders” - rather than BN component parties - who echo and support them.
He further pointed out expelling parties would be detrimental to BN.
“Do you think BN should even entertain such calls?
“If BN had a history of expelling component parties at will, it wouldn’t have survived until today.
“What I want to say is this - whenever you outsiders hear something you don’t like, your first reaction is to demand MCA’s expulsion. You even claim that MCA shouldn’t be part of the government. But have you ever taken a moment to reflect on what the real issue is?”
MCA remains a component party of BN, which is part of the ruling government.
The party currently has two MPs - Wee himself and Tanjung Piai lawmaker Wee Jeck Seng. However, neither of them was appointed to ministerial or deputy ministerial positions.
