Trespass charge against
Suaram leaders referred
back to cops
The duo were supposed to be charged in the magistrates’ court tomorrow, but this has been postponed.

Although Suaram executive director Sevan Doraisamy and coordinator Azura Nasron were supposed to be charged in the Putrajaya magistrates’ court tomorrow, the NGO said this has been postponed to a later date.
“At 3.50pm today, the investigating officer informed us that tomorrow’s charge was postponed to refer the matter back to the authorities. No new court dates were given.
“Thank you to all who were in solidarity with us,” it said in a brief statement.
Yesterday, Suaram said it was informed that Sevan, Azura and another unnamed person were going to be charged under Section 5 of the Protected Areas and Protected Places Act with trespassing on the home ministry complex in Putrajaya.
The group previously claimed that its two leaders were arrested by the police in relation to an investigation into their alleged illegal entry into the ministry’s complex.
Putrajaya police denied the arrests at the time, saying the duo were only brought in to have their statements recorded.
Suaram’s representatives, along with family members of detainees held under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma), had gathered at the ministry to submit a memorandum demanding answers on the detainees’ wellbeing.
It followed a hunger strike that took place outside Sungai Buloh prison to protest the rejection of their visit applications by the prisons department.
