Summary
- Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad accuses his former deputy Anwar Ibrahim of being a serial liar after the latter claimed the former’s children had RM1 billion in assets.
- Mahathir says the assets were accumulated over 43 years and their net worth after deducting liabilities is around RM450 million.
- He adds that legal action is being taken against the prime minister and none of his allegations have been proven.
Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad railed against Anwar Ibrahim, accusing his once right-hand man of being a serial liar.
In a post on social media, he said the prime minister kept repeating incomplete facts about the net worth of his children.
“He (Anwar) said my children have assets of RM1.2 billion. This was based on the statement by MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki.
“But he didn’t include the part where Azam said the assets were accumulated over 43 years.
“This is while Azam has said the real (net worth) amount, including shares and disposable properties, is around RM450 million,” Mahathir said.
Last month, Azam said the former Umno president’s sons, Mirzan and Mokhzani, declared about RM1 billion in assets.

After deducting liabilities, Mokhzani’s personal net worth stood at about RM360 million while Mirzan’s stood at RM120 million.
‘Enough with the lies’
Mahathir also said Anwar keeps repeating this story to “keep up his lies” and that there was proof the 99-year-old abused his power to enrich his family.
“As I’ve always explained, I told my children to do business outside the country. Their businesses in the country were only after I stopped being prime minister,” he said.
He added that legal action has been taken against Anwar and it has been two years that none of the prime minister’s claims have been proven.
The former Langkawi MP also brushed off Anwar’s denial that foreign leaders were blocked from meeting him.
“He can deny but my advice is, enough with the lies.
“What’s clear is that every time he opens his mouth, he lies.”

Please explain to all Malaysians why you reneged on your promise to hand over the prime ministership to Anwar and allowed the PH government to collapse after begging for his support in the 2018 general election. Was this a “lie”?
