Nazri draws criticism for supporting Anwar as PM11






FORMER Malaysian Ambassador to the US, Nazri Aziz, has returned to Kuala Lumpur and is now focusing on local politics ahead of the 16th General Election.


He strongly supports Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, citing concerns over the lack of a viable successor, including within his own party, UMNO.


Nazri believes Anwar must remain in power beyond 2026 to prevent political instability. Although he has no plans to return to Parliament, he remains committed to assisting Anwar’s leadership.


“I am very worried for this country because without PMX, who will be the next prime minister? It’s sad to say that our system does not allow for the emergence of intellectual leaders who do not play on racial or religious sentiments,” he said.

“Tell me, who else? It would be a disaster for us if Anwar is not the prime minister for another five years after 2026,” said the former law minister.

But his statement about Anwar has drawn more criticism on X. A large number of users who commented on the post on X are not in agreement with Nazri that Anwar should be considered as PM for another term.

Some users are saying they are tired of Anwar as PM and would want a fresh face or that Nazri is probably hoping for a ministerial post in Anwar’s government, which is why he is kissing boots.





One user said many people under the age of 70 can be chosen as PM 11. The user also raised the issue of honesty and sincerity, a concern for many after the return of PH to power in 2022.



“We just need politicians who are truly honest and sincere in developing the country and serving the people, without worrying too much about how to remain in power.

“The people will respond positively without the need for tricks and deception from such politicians,” the user said. —Feb 23, 2025
