MINISTER of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has cancelled his Chinese New Year open house due to the severe flood situation in Bintulu.
In a Facebook post, the Bintulu MP said the open house earlier scheduled for Feb 9 was cancelled as all attention must be on assisting the flood victims.
"People have lost their homes, belongings and have suffered great losses.
"The right thing to do is to focus our efforts on relief and recovery work rather then celebrating," he said.
He said he had also visited several evacuation centres, including those in Suarah and Paragon to assess the situation and ensure the victims were well cared for.
