PETALING JAYA
A PKR Youth leader has questioned the silence of the top two in PAS following the latest incident involving the Islamic party’s Perak chief Razman Zakaria who has been accused of defaming a federal minister.

Taufiq Johari said PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and his deputy, Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, were “nowhere to be seen” when their leaders were defaming others.

The Kedah PKR Youth chief also wondered why none of the party’s ulama reprimanded any of these party leaders.

“If they (PAS leaders) really uphold Islamic teachings, why do they keep mum?

“We should not normalise such hypocrisy,” he said in a statement.

Taufiq said this in response to Tuan Ibrahim stating it was commendable to forgive those who had apologised and admitted their mistakes. Tuan Ibrahim however said that the apology must be sincere.

Razman had recently linked youth and sports minister Hannah Yeoh to the Yeoh family of the YTL Corporation Bhd conglomerate.

Yeoh however is set to serve Razman a letter of demand, despite him apologising for his claim that the Segambut MP was the “daughter of a rich man” and a “daughter of YTL”, as he had made other allegedly defamatory allegations against her in the same speech.

Commenting on Tuan Ibrahim’s take on forgiving those who had apologised, Taufiq asked if repeatedly defaming another could be considered an honest mistake.

Much earlier, another PAS leader, Siti Mastura Muhammad, was found guilty of defaming three DAP leaders and was ordered by a court to pay RM830,034 to party veteran Lim Kit Siang, former finance minister Lim Guan Eng and Seputeh MP Teresa Kok.

“PAS often brands itself as a party that champions the Islamic cause, yet their leaders unabashedly defame others,” Taufiq, the Sungai Petani MP said.
