Trailer head detaches in freak accident, sparking talks on road safety

PEOPLE who frequent news portals will find a common trend of vehicular accidents and fatality involving heavy vehicles.

Fortunately, a recent tragedy involving a trailer resulted in no deaths, although it is no short of spectacular for the head of the vehicle was detached from the body only to move a short distance away.

“Imagine what will happen if the head gets pulled off near the highway. Whose fault would it be? The land pilot or the company? Luckily it was a village road,” said mhmmdhsm who posted the video on X.

Many netizens have pointed out how the EX-5 rider managed to avoid death by just a few inches.

There is no shortage of interesting pictures in the comment section of any X post so here is one from Syafiq Safwan.

“Luckily the motorcyclist did not enter the bottom of the trailer,” said m.r@yyanfm.

One netizen added that although it was the lorry driver who was foolish, people on social media would still back them up, that everything was fated.

No further information could be derived from the scene, such as the location or if anyone was hurt from the incident.

On another note, The Straits Time reported in Dec 2024 that there were more than 1,400 deaths involving heavy vehicles in the last six years, according to the traffic police.

To recap, Transport Minister Anthony Loke has since stated that the ministry aims to take strong action to address the issue of overloaded vehicles, and that any necessary amendments to the relevant laws will be pursued.

The minister expressed his desire for all parties involved in the ecosystem to comply with road regulations and not use ‘overloading’ as an excuse. —Jan 13, 2025
