PKR MP pans Razman's 'insincere' apology, tells him not to blame media

Summary
- PKR communications director Lee Chean Chung calls out Perak PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria’s “insincere” apology for falsely linking Hannah Yeoh to tycoon Yeoh Tiong Lay.
- This is because Razman attempted to shift the blame to Malaysiakini for allegedly quoting only 10 seconds out of his 30-minute speech.
- However, Lee says the PAS leader is ignoring the main issue, which is his own attitude in issuing statements.
A PKR leader has taken a swipe at Perak PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria’s admission that he had erroneously described Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh as the daughter of YTL Corporation Berhad’s founder Yeoh Tiong Lay.
PKR communications director Lee Chean Chung in a statement described Razman’s subsequent apology as “insincere” as the vocal politician also blamed the media and specifically Malaysiakini for not highlighting the rest of his 30-minute speech.
“Although he (Razlan) has admitted his mistake, he is trying to shift part of the responsibility to Malaysiakini, claiming that the news report manipulated his statement.
“I believe his apology is not sincere, as there is no deep reflection on his error; instead, he is merely blaming the media,” said Lee (above), who is Petaling Jaya MP.

“Razman tried to blame the media by claiming that his statement was taken out of context, being only 10 seconds from a 30-minute speech.
“However, the statement was something he himself publicly uttered. The media’s responsibility is to report his statement accurately, not to ‘fabricate’ stories,” said Lee.
Earlier today, Hannah shared a 20-second excerpt of Razman's speech - a full-length version shared on his Facebook - in which the Gunung Semanggol assemblyperson claimed that she is a daughter of the YTL tycoon.
‘Main issue is your attitude’
He had also alleged that the Umno-led state government in the past sold a Perak cement company to YTL Group.
In her response, Hannah, who is a DAP lawmaker, stated that PAS should know that not all Yeohs are related.

Commenting further, Lee said the “main mistake” does not lie in how the media reported the news but rather in the attitude of a politician.
“Razman’s attempt to shift the blame to the media does not change the fact that the error originated from himself.
“As a politician, one must take responsibility for every statement made, rather than attempting to obscure the mistake once it has been exposed to the public,” said Lee.
Hannah has yet to directly respond to Razman’s apology.

Hard to trust 'serial defamer', Syahredzan tells PAS leader to repent

Summary
- DAP MP Syahredzan Johan finds it difficult to trust Razman Zakaria’s expression of regret since this is not his first strike.
- Calling him a “serial defamer”, the Bangi MP tells the PAS leader to repent and set a good example.
- He claims that Razman’s admission is probably motivated by his fear of being slapped with a defamation suit.
DAP lawmaker Syahredzan Johan finds it difficult to extend the benefit of the doubt to Perak PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria over his latest “error”.
The Bangi MP advised the veteran politician to "repent" and urged him to reflect on whether his actions set a positive example for the people and party members.
“If it happened once, we could give the benefit of the doubt. But Razman has repeatedly slandered. It’s hard for us to believe a ‘serial defamer’,” Syahredzan said in a social media post.
“We tend to believe that Razman is only admitting his mistake because it went viral and he’s afraid of being sued like the other PAS YB (Kepala Batas MP Siti Mastura Muhammad who lost a defamation case against DAP leaders),” he added.
Syahredzan was commenting on Razman apologising to Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh for claiming that she is the daughter of YTL Corporation Berhad’s founder Yeoh Tiong Lay.

“I acknowledge the factual error regarding the connection between Hannah and YTL. I admit that Hannah has no connection with the corporate figure or the YTL company.
“This was an unintentional error in the quoting process.
“With this statement, I express regret and offer my apologies to Hannah, YTL, and any parties affected or offended by the confusion caused by the factual error," Razman said.

Syahredzan also dismissed the PAS leader’s complaint that the media had only focused on his remarks about the minister and did not report his entire speech.
“If it's truly a mistake, apologise and admit it. There's no need to give a lecture about the video being cut and so on. Those are all excuses. What Razman said in the video is clear as day,” he added.
Unhappy with report
In his media statement, the PAS leader had also expressed disappointment with Malaysiakini over its report highlighting his claim about Hannah.
“The excerpt of my speech quoted by Malaysiakini was a statement that was not the main point, especially as the event featured three prominent figures.
“I urge reporting that sharpens the intellect of the people rather than inciting animosity among them,” he said.
Last December, Razman was forced to apologise to Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming after falsely linking the latter to a procession in Teluk Intan where delegates from China waved the Chinese national flag.
