Shafee sees a conspiracy to suppress existence of a royal decree for Najib’s house arrest

LAWYER Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah has alleged a conspiracy to suppress the existence of a Royal Decree Addendum that could allow former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to serve his prison sentence under house arrest.

He claimed this is part of a political effort to prevent Najib, currently serving a six-year sentence for misappropriating SRC International funds, from regaining influence.

“To this day, I can only speculate why the second decree (Titah Adendum) was not announced, and I am certain the reason is a conspiracy to ensure Najib remains under pressure in this political conspiracy situation.

“This is because, as soon as he is allowed to serve his sentence under house arrest, there will be parties worried that he could become influential again,” he said at the Townhall Rakyat Mencari Kebenaran (People’s Townhall for Justice) program titled Royal Pardon: Scope and Challenges at the Sime Darby Convention Centre, Bukit Kiara, yesterday.

Najib, 71, is currently serving a six-year prison sentence since August 23, 2022, after being convicted of misappropriating RM42 million in funds belonging to SRC International Sdn Bhd. He filed a petition for a royal pardon on September 2, 2022.

The addendum, allegedly approved by the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, would have allowed Najib to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest. —Jan 3, 2025
