Summary
- Umno leader Mohd Puad Zarkashi has slammed the suggestion of PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang as the opposition’s prime minister candidate.
- He claims the Islamist party is unfit to lead the federal government as it always flip-flops on its principles.
PAS is not fit to lead the country for it has always flip-flopped in its principles, said Umno supreme council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi.
In a statement today, he whacked PAS cleric Mokhtar Senik who suggested party president Abdul Hadi Awang as a potential prime minister candidate for Perikatan Nasional.
According to Puad (above), Mokhtar went against Hadi’s principle of not naming a prime minister candidate ahead of an election.
“This is the problem with PAS. They always flip-flop on their principles. Mokhtar forgot that Hadi himself criticised the practice of naming a prime minister ahead (of an election), which he said does not follow Prophet Muhammad’s etiquette.

“But now they (PAS) themselves are doing it. This is why Muafakat Nasional (Umno-PAS alliance) was a failure. Because they could say one thing today but change their tune the next day.
“One day they would even say it is okay to be friends with Israel, as they did with DAP before.
“That is why, even if the rakyat wants to have an Islamist government, Hadi is not fit to be the prime minister. If they could flip-flop their fatwas, I am afraid they would do the same with the administration and economic policies,” he said.
Puad was referring to Hadi’s statement in 2017, where the PAS chief reportedly slammed certain political parties for announcing their prime minister candidate and shadow cabinet.

According to his statement published by Harakahdaily, Hadi said at the time that such a practice was against the Prophet’s teaching as Islam does not teach its followers to chase power and positions.
Yesterday, Mokhtar, who is a member of the PAS Ulama wing, publicly endorsed Hadi as the opposition’s prime minister candidate and outlined the Marang MP’s qualities, which he claimed qualify the PAS president to lead the next federal government.
