PETALING JAYA: Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) is to leave Perikatan Nasional. Its president, Jeffrey Kitingan, said an official announcement would be made soon.

Kitingan, who is Sabah deputy chief minister in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah-led state government, said the STAR decision was made as the party currently supports the unity government led by Anwar Ibrahim and was not aligned with PN, Bernama reported.

“Yes (we are leaving PN), let’s wait for the announcement, because if you go in this direction and I go in that direction, that means we’re not aligned,” he told reporters here today.

On Nov 26, Kitingan said STAR had taken the same stand as GRS to support the unity government, which was formed by Anwar with the support of Pakatan Harapan, Barisan Nasional (BN), and Gabungan Parti Sarawak.

Perikatan Nasional, led by Bersatu and PAS, has said it will form the opposition in the Dewan Rakyat.

Kitingan said PN was now on a different track compared to STAR and only time would determine the party’s position in the coalition. He said he wanted to wait until the political situation calmed down before making the next move.

GRS, the ruling coalition in Sabah, comprises Sabah Bersatu, Parti Bersatu Sabah, STAR, Sabah Progressive Party and United Sabah National Organisation. The coalition forms the state government in an alliance with BN and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah.
