Batang Kali landslide: Heartfelt praise for SAR team




KUALA LUMPUR: Gratitude and concern have been pouring in from Malaysians as they pay tribute to the firefighters working on the search and rescue operations at the Batang Kali landslide site.

The comments section in one of The Star’s article were filled with well-wishes and words of appreciation for the heroes who have been working tirelessly since the incident happened over a week ago.


Andrew Teoh shared his gratitude saying he was grateful to the members of the SAR team.

"Please take care of your own health too.

"You have families to return to, don't take unnecessary risk.

"Painful as it is this is a recovery phase and not a rescue phase.

"Take care. From the bottom of our hearts thank you. God bless," he said.

Gary Chew said this team of Malaysian first responders sacrificed their needs against all odds.

"My utmost appreciation to them and even more for not looking at race or religion but humanity. Syabas," he said.

Selvanayagee GV said there were no words to express her gratitude to the SAR team.

"The sacrifice made by you is mind blowing. This shows the real spirit of Malaysians," she posted.

User Yupin Khoo commented that recognition and awards should be given to them.

"They have risked their lives," he said.

Chui Diana saluted the role of firefighters saying she was moved by all the rescue workers.

"They risk both mental and physical health to continue in this heartbreaking search. Compassion has driven these heroes onward. "God will bless you. Salute," she said.

The landslide tragedy, which occurred at the Father's Organic Farm campsite in Gohtong Jaya, Batang Kali, at 2.42am on Dec 16, has claimed 30 lives, with one still missing. Another 61 survived the ordeal.
