Appointing GLC chiefs may take up to 2 months, says Ahmad

Deputy finance minister Ahmad Maslan said GLCs operating under the Minister of Finance (Incorporated) were still running well.

PETALING JAYA: The appointment of chairman and board members for federal statutory bodies and government-linked companies (GLCs) may take up to two months, says deputy finance minister Ahmad Maslan.

He said these appointments should be done carefully and not in haste, Bernama reported.

Ahmad said GLCs operating under the Minister of Finance (Incorporated) (MoF Inc) were still running well under the management of their respective chief executive officers, senior executives and other staff.

“So, we are waiting for the next Cabinet directive on when the vacant positions (of chairmen and board members) will be filled and by whom.

“I know that under MoF Inc, there are many companies involved and various individuals have resigned or were terminated,” the Pontian MP was reported as saying after an event in his constituency.

Ahmad was asked about the latest on the appointment of chairmen and members of the board of directors to GLCs and other government bodies.

On Dec 14, the government issued termination letters to all existing political appointees to these institutions.

Last week, deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the appointments, which also involved MoF Inc and government-related investment companies (GLIC), were being streamlined and would be announced by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

  1. I really, really hope they set experience and qualifications in the functional area, competence , integrity and leadership are taken as primary criterion for the appointments, not political payoffs.

By all means, you can set political alignment as a criteria, as a GLC head whose mentality is totally at odds with PH policies is not going to do the government any good.
