BN has learnt from mistakes, says Zahid

KULIM: Barisan Nasional has learnt from its mistakes after suffering huge losses in the 15th general election, when it won only 30 seats, said its chairman, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“I have learnt from my mistakes. BN and Umno have learnt from their mistakes,” the Umno president said at a Pakatan Harapan (PH) ceramah in support of PH’s candidate in the Padang Serai election, Sofee Razak, last night.

“In the 14th general election, yes, we had a lot of money. But money is not everything despite the fact that everything needs money,” he said, in reference to BN’s defeat in 2018 for the first time in 61 years.

Zahid also explained why BN opted to work with PH to form the unity government instead of siding with Perikatan Nasional.

He said this was because BN was confident the Anwar Ibrahim-led PH was “the best political partner”.

He described PKR, DAP and Amanah as “true friends” after looking upon them as enemies previously.

“Back then, we had allergy just looking at the light blue colour (of the PKR flag). But there is a cure for allergy, which is sincerity to work together as one strong administration.

“Based on that policy, we should forget our past differences.

“Just two weeks ago, I was mocking them (PH) and they were mocking me. But there is a saying that there are no permanent friends and no permanent enemies in politics,” he said.

Zahid praised Anwar, saying that his past admiration for the prime minister was rekindled when he saw him chairing the first Cabinet meeting yesterday.

He was also happy that Anwar had reduced the number of 4D special draws from 22 to eight from next year, as was done by the past BN government.
