PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional will formulate a new strategy to tackle the problem of the 27 parliamentary seats where PAS has said it would avoid a clash with Umno.

PN secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin said he will meet with PAS leaders for discussions to resolve the matter.

“I will meet with them to resolve the matter. We will formulate another strategy,” Bernama quoted him as telling reporters after a ministry event in his parliamentary constituency of Larut in Perak.

A PAS leader had said that 27 seats have become critical following the decision of Barisan Nasional not to cooperate with PN.

PAS central working committee member Zuhdi Marsuki said the party had told Bersatu that it should not clash with Umno in these seats to ensure that they do not fall into the hands of Pakatan Harapan again.

He said the critical seats involve 20 won by PH in 2018, against candidates from PAS and Umno, while the other seven are at risk of falling to PH because of the narrow defeats of PH candidates.

Meanwhile, Hamzah is still keeping everyone guessing as to which seat he will be contesting.

He refused to divulge anything when asked by reporters whether he would be defending his Larut parliamentary seat.

“Where do you want me to contest?” he retorted.

On Wednesday, Hamzah said his party did not dismiss the possibility of swapping seats with its PN component partners as a strategy to be used in GE15.

On Sept 23, the media had reported that seat distribution in PN was almost completed.

In the last general election, Hamzah won the Larut seat on a BN ticket in a three-cornered fight that also involved PAS and PKR. He then left Umno, the lynchpin of BN, to become an independent MP before joining Bersatu.
