PETALING JAYA: Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin is open to contesting any parliamentary seat in the 15th general election (GE15).

While he has received offers from many division leaders, Khairy said he will leave it to the Umno leadership to decide where he should contest.

“I am a politician, when asked to go anywhere, I’ll go. It doesn’t matter where,” Berita Harian quoted him as saying.

“Many seats were offered to me, but those who offered them were local leaders. The party leadership will make the decision,” he said, adding that he was open to contesting anywhere, be it in Negeri Sembilan or in the Klang Valley.

It was previously reported that Khairy, who has been the Rembau MP since 2008, will have to make way for Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan in GE15.

Mohamad, the Rembau Umno chief, previously said he intended to contest a parliamentary seat so that he could play a role at the federal level. He did not say which seat he would contest.

Khairy, who is the health minister, has since been linked to the Port Dickson and Seremban seats in Negeri Sembilan and the Alor Setar seat in Kedah.

On Umno’s preparations for GE15, Khairy said it was in the hands of the party’s leadership.

“I understand that there is an Umno political bureau meeting this evening, and the agenda of the meeting is possibly on the preparation and selection of candidates (for GE15) among other issues,” he said.
