GTA allies bicker after Ibrahim sets claim on 7 seats

Kelantan GTA chairman Ibrahim Ali had listed the seats that would be contested by his party and Pejuang.

PETALING JAYA: Partners in the Gerakan Tanah Air coalition in Kelantan have clashed after Putra leader Ibrahim Ali announced that his party would contest seven parliamentary seats in the state.

His claim came under fire from the state GTA deputy chairman, Sazmi Miah, who said Ibrahim, who is Kelantan GTA chief, had been too hasty to make the announcement.

“The seat allocation, based on the meeting today attended by representatives from Pejuang and Putra, has yet to be finalised,” Sazmi said in a statement.

“No decision was made because there was an overlap of candidates for parliamentary seats submitted by both parties including the Kota Bharu, Tumpat and Pengkalan Chepa seats,” he said.

He said each decision needs the consent of GTA component party leaders.

“Ibrahim shouldn’t be hasty in issuing a statement as any decision should be mutually agreed by all component parties,” said Sazmi, who is also the Kelantan Pejuang chief.

Earlier today, Ibrahim had said his Putra party would contest in Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Rantau Panjang, Tanah Merah, Kota Bharu, Bachok, and Pengkalan Chepa.

He added that Pejuang would contest in Pasir Puteh, Gua Musang, Jeli, Kubang Kerian, Machang, Ketereh, and Kuala Krai.

GTA, led by Dr Mahathir Mohamad, comprises Pejuang, the National Indian Muslim Alliance Party (Iman), Putra, Berjasa, academicians, and individuals.

In August, Mahathir said the coalition intended to contest in 120 seats.

  1. "Chope" the seats on a first come, first served basis? Ha ha...

Me thinks it really would not make any difference who among Pejuang gets which seat.

    ALL will be wiped out!
