Thomas Cup failure: Netizens call for BAM supremo Norza Zakaria to leave!

WITH “new kid on the block” India winning the prestigious Thomas Cup by beating 14-times champion Indonesia, Malaysians lamented the fate of local badminton players.

From there, several netizens targeted their frustration at Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) president Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria and called him to quit.

(Norza has been helming BAM since 2017 but showed no results. I think it’s time to give chance to a new face)

Echoing Roman’s sentiments, user D’Owl added:

(Time for him to go. Norza and his minions are only interested in positions and money. If left like this, soon Timor Leste will beat us 5-0)

Netizen Abo Bakar Mohd Nor stated:

(An utter failure. Malaysia is champion in name only. Our tax money in BAM is getting burnt by those who likes to play politics and think of themselves as sacred)

Malaysia lost at the quarterfinal stage to India. While Malaysia star Lee Zii Jia won 2-3 over India’s Lakshya Sen, the subcontinent marched to the semifinal by defeating Denmark.

India then pulled a surprise by defeating “badminton titan” Indonesia with a formidable 3-0 score.

Malaysia last won the Thomas Cup in 1992, which was 30 years ago!

Failed management

On that note, user D’Owl continued that while Norza and his management were blaming the players for having “mentality problem”, the issue was actually plaguing BAM’s management.

(His people are claiming our players lost the Thomas Cup tournament because of “mentality problem”. In reality, the ones having “mentality problem” is Norza and his BAM management)

Netizen Mazlin B remarked:

(When will we stop cronyism and paying people salaries for doing nothing? Wasting our country’s resources) – May 16, 2022

  1. It is a pity that most do not want to accept that Norza is only the symptom, and the ketuanan is the actual disease.
