Shamsul Iskandar felled as division chief, Rafizi sweeps Malacca

With early results coming in for the PKR polls, Rafizi Ramli has enjoyed a clean sweep of all divisions in Malacca against his rival Saifuddin Nasution Ismail in the race for the party’s deputy president.

Collectively, the former Pandan MP won 2,427 votes against Saifuddin's 1,468 in the state, according to party sources.

In the wider context, this victory is just a marker, not a decisive one, as Malacca is one of the smaller states, with less than 4,000 voters compared to the 147,334 who voted nationwide.

Meanwhile, party vice-president Shamsul Iskandar (above), who is the incumbent MP for Hang Tuah Jaya, was defeated by Md Rafee Ibrahim in the battle for division chief.

In Masjid Tanah, another party strongman Halim Bachik won by just four votes over his opponent Amran Othman, while Ginie Lim who was dropped as a candidate by the party over her alleged ties to the Azmin Ali camp, won in Alor Gajah.

Aside from Rafizi's comfortable win, other races were closer with Rodizah Ismail winning three divisions and losing out in three to rival Fadhlina Sidek.

In the race for PKR Youth chief, Adam Adli won four divisions and Fahmi Zainol picked up two.

Rodziah and Fahmi were part of Rafizi's slate of candidates.

In a separate statement, PKR Election Committee chairperson Dr Zaliha Mustafa said voting had concluded following some re-elections in 12 divisions in Kelantan, Kedah, Terengganu, Selangor and Sabah.

She said that unofficial results would be published on the party’s website over the course of today.

"Results that are issued would include contests where complaints and objections have been registered with the election committee and investigations are being carried out.

"The results will only become official at the party’s congress that will be held on June 25 and 26," added Zaliha.
