Rimba Disclosure: Forested area larger than Putrajaya put on sale

The Rimba Disclosure Project, which tracks the sale of forested land on the internet, said it found seven such listings in April.

It has reported that on top of that, there were public announcements of a planned gold mine project, an alleged encroachment into indigenous land in Kelantan, as well as a logging concession in Kedah.

"The Rimba Disclosure Project has identified a minimum of 5004.9ha of forest for April 2022, an area larger than Putrajaya," it said. Putrajaya is about 4,900 hectares.

In its list, the affected areas involve 6,291.73 hectares - with 4,918.84 hectares in Pahang, 809.3 hectares in Negeri Sembilan, 523.59 hectares in Kelantan, and 40 hectares in Kedah.

The Rimba Disclosure Project publishes a monthly report of potential future deforestation projects.

Their publications have drawn responses from some state forestry departments after the group identified about 43,539 forested lands for sale across Peninsular Malaysia in February.

The Selangor Forestry Department, for example, said the identified land was not within gazetted permanent forest reserves.
