Adios M’sia: Moral policing drives artiste Sarah Hildebrand to leave for the US!

WHILE being an artiste can bring fame and fortune to them, it is does not necessarily bring enjoyment to life as your everyday life may get scrutinised by the public.

And that fact dawned upon Malaysian actress Sarah Hildebrand who decided to leave Malaysia for the US due to constant moral policing by her fellow Muslims…to the extent of being slut-shamed!

Her supposed “sin”, not dressing modestly as per several netizens’ interpretation of Islamic values in the country.

Taking to Instagram days ago, the celebrity posted captions saying that the racist and judgmental attitude that some Muslim Malaysians have is hypocritical, regressive and embarrassing to say the least.

In another caption, she posted: “I hope you will one day learn to embrace others with open arms as the Prophet Muhammad did. I love my religion (Islam) and will never leave it because I know it’s not Islam that is corrupt, for it is humans that will continue to spoil the religion with their arrogance and idiocracy. We are given something special called akal (mind). Please use it or you will crumble to your own demise.”

Elaborating on her decision, Hildebrand said that while she was lucky to be able to leave Malaysia, she felt bad for those who want to leave but were unable to do for various reasons.

“I am blessed and very lucky to have the opportunity to migrate and start anew. I’m sorry for those of you who want nothing more but to leave Malaysia.

“I totally understand and I empathise with you. I hope one day Malaysia will become a healthier and a more progressive country to live in. I hope the mentality will change so that people aren’t so stressed out and repressed living amongst each other.

“I hope for the best for Malaysia and for my fellow Malaysians. But you know the raw truth, you can’t change anything unless you start implementing the change. Keep educating yourselves, keep reading, keep seeking knowledge. Be better for you, your country, your religion, your family, your friends, and for your future,” she quipped.

Barraged with negativity

In a report by Malay daily Kosmo, it was mentioned that Hildebrand was constantly belittled and humiliated by several Muslim netizens for “not dressing modestly”, which was speculated to being the reason for her abrupt decision to quit the local movie industry.

In one post, she attributed to one post which solidified her decision to migrate for good, which was sent by user Rihanbokhari 2.

“Dh nmpak mcm perempuan sundal tu lah kawen ngn laki warga asing jd cm tu lah.”

(You are now looking like a slut. This is what happens when you get married to a foreigner)

To that, Hildebrand replied: “I deal with comments like this on a daily basis but this one’s a winner.”

Sarah Hildebrand, or her full name Nur Sarah Marie Hildebrand Asyraf Hildebrand rose to fame after starring in the series, Pujaan Hati Kanda.

She is married to a Filipino-American named Otto Gillen. – May 29, 2022.

  1. I applaud her for making the right decision.

But, unfortunately her wish that "Malaysia will become a healthier and a more progressive country to live in. I hope the mentality will change so that people aren’t so stressed out and repressed living amongst each other" is wishful thinking. The bigots will ultimately rule the land.

  2. No doubt she faces severe restrictions in Malaysia on her artistic freedom and potential, especially as a Muslim woman.
But why go to the US ?
If you follow progressive media, USA is notorious for its Islamophobia and prejudice against Muslims.
USA is basically a White Christian power base with strong influence from a very powerful Jewish minority.
