KUALA LUMPUR – Pejuang president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir hinted that his party will be fielding a candidate in the Titiwangsa parliamentary seat, currently held by Datuk Seri Rina Harun, in the looming 15th general election (GE15).

Speaking at a press conference today, Mukhriz said it was Bersatu that put forth former party colleague Rina to contest in the constituency in the last general election, which saw her defeating incumbent Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani with a comfortable majority of 4,139 votes.

“But I heard that she doesn’t come to meet the residents anymore and she hasn’t been carrying out her duties.

“So, there are rumours that she might be looking for another seat (to contest in),” he said.

In addition, he said Pejuang will be defending all the seats they have taken, including the Langkawi seat following Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s decision to stay out of the upcoming election.

However, he said his party has not finalised the list of candidates to be fielded in GE15 as it is still deliberating on the distribution of seats.

“After the defeat in the Johor polls, we had learned that it is important to make our decisions based on our capabilities before making a decision.

“We have to look at our strengths in terms of membership, machinery, the best candidates, and whether we are suitable to contest that particular seat.

“So that is being considered. We haven’t decided the number of seats (that we will be contesting in) but rest assured that it will be a number that is suitable for a party like ours.”

On Pejuang’s readiness to work with other political parties from both sides of the divide, the Jerlun MP admitted that there are ongoing talks behind the scenes with different parties which are in line with their principles to form a potential alliance.

The infant party is ready to work with non-political organisations such as non-governmental organisations as long as they are “free from kleptocracy and abuse of power”.

“We are looking for similarities to allow us to face the general election together.” – The Vibes, May 29, 2022
