Tuan Ibrahim will attend COP26 after allπŸ˜€πŸ˜πŸ˜‚πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘πŸ˜…

The cabinet has decided to send Water and Environment Minister Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man to the 26th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26) in Glasgow, Scotland.

He will also ratify for Malaysia two declarations to protect the environment, which have already been signed by more than 100 countries.

Putrajaya had been noticeably absent during the first two days of COP26, which was attended by major world leaders.

Tuan Ibrahim's ministry in a statement today said the minister will sit in the high-level segment of COP26 on Nov 9 and 10 and will deliver a national statement.

During his visit, he will ratify the Glasgow Leaders' Declaration on Forest and Land Use, which pledges to halt and reverse deforestation and land degradation by 2030.

Methane emissions

The Water and Environment Ministry said this is in line with Malaysia's commitment to maintaining at least 50 percent of the country's landmass as forests and tree canopies.

Tuan Ibrahim will also ratify for Malaysia the Global Methane Pledge, which seeks to slash 30 percent of methane emissions by 2030.

The Water and Environment Ministry said it would work with the relevant ministries and agencies to ensure implementation of actions needed to fulfil the declarations are inclusive and holistic.

"Malaysia is always committed with other countries which signed the Paris Accords to maintaining the rise in global temperatures below 2 degrees Celsius through mitigation, so that it doesn't exceed 1.5 degrees Celsius and reduce its impact on climate change," the ministry added.

  1. I very much doubt Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man will get any substantive work done at COP26.
An expensive junket trip with First Class travel to Glasgow.

There is no known communication from him ever, past or present, on the subject of Climate Change.
His party is infamous for warning that natural disasters are a lesson and punishment from Allah. I am sure he believes in that, or he perhaps is a hypocrite.

In the states where his party is in power, Kelantan and Kedah, PAS has been notorious for treating jungle and forest reserves as a gold mine to be raided. Either that or you have to pay them Protection Money to compensate them.
