Name Adly for Melaka CM, Guan Eng urges PH
Adly Zahari should be the PH choice to be Melaka chief minister, says Lim Guan Eng of DAP.
PETALING JAYA: DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has urged Pakatan Harapan to name its Melaka chief Adly Zahari as the coalition’s candidate for the chief minister’s post, saying that PH cannot afford to make “more mistakes”.
Lim said PH had already made a mistake in accepting former Umno assemblymen Idris Haron and Nor Azman Hassan whose defections last month caused the collapse of the Melaka state government and led to fresh state assembly elections being called.
“We must not make any more such mistakes. That is why we must name Adly as our chief minister-designate,” he told FMT.
Yesterday, PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim had declined to name the coalition’s candidate for the chief ministership, which one political scientist says leaves the “door open” for Idris, should PH come to power after the Nov 20 polls.

Idris Haron.
DAP previously opposed PH’s acceptance of any of the defectors that brought the last government down but it has hinted that it was outvoted on the matter by PKR and Amanah.
“PKR and Amanah must explain the matter (acceptance of Idris and Nor Azman) to the people,” said Lim, adding failure to do so could affect the people’s belief in PH.
Adly, who is a vice-president of Amanah, was chief minister of Melaka from 2018 to March 2020, when defections brought down the PH state government. He was replaced by Sulaiman Mohd Ali of Umno.
Idris was Adly’s predecessor as chief minister, holding the post from 2013 to 2018, when PH won power. He succeeded Mohd Ali Rustam, who is now the state governor, and served a second term as state assemblyman for Sungai Udang from 2018 until the state assembly was dissolved last month.
He has been accepted as a PKR member and has been nominated by PH to contest in Asohan at the current elections.
