Back to the good old days - thanks Dr Asri

Perlis Mufti: Muslims and non-Muslims can share a table for their respective meal, ensure no mixed up of food (extracts):

From Sin Chew Daily:

Non-Muslims can share a table with Muslims for their own meal including non-halal food such as pork, according to Perlis Mufti Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin, as long as they ensure the food consumed by Muslim is not mixed up.

He said this in reply to questions raised during a dialogue before the “Reception hosted by Perlis regent for Chinese and Siamese community” jointly organised by Perlis Malaysia One Centre and Perlis Mufti Office, Perlis Islamic Religious Affairs Department and Perlis Islamic Customs and Cultural Council yesterday afternoon. [...]

In his reply, Asri said people should be sincere in treating each other. Muslims should not ban or exploit the rights of non-Muslims. Muslims should practice self-restraint and remind their Muslim brothers of not having contact with non-halal food. Muslims have no right to ban non-Muslims from consuming non-halal food.

Citing an example, he said as long as pork and liquor consumed by non-Muslims are not mixed with Muslim food, that is the cordial relations between Muslims and non-Muslims.

Apart from Dr Asri's immense dislike for Hindus, he seems to be pretty relaxed and liberal about inter-racial socialising.

I wonder what would JAKIM say, considering it has been promoting the most severe form of division between Muslims and non-Muslims inter-mingling where even a birthday cake without a JAKIM-issued halal certificate cannot be taken into halal-certified restaurants like MacDonalds.

Continuing he added:

Asri explained that Islamic doctrine does not compel Muslims to dine in restaurants with halal certification but everyone should be able to differentiate ‘halal certification’ and ‘halal’.

He said it is not easy for Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) to issue halal certification. To meet the standard, the process would have to fulfil halal requirements. However, this does not mean shops without halal certifications do not comply with halal regulations.

“The Malay woman selling nasi lemak at the roadside is without halal certification. But her food is halal. Similarly, as long as restaurants operated by non-Muslims meet the halal requirements in the process of preparing the food, and there is no mixed up of non-halal food, then it’s alright.”

Dr Asri also paid put to another fallacy, saying:

He said that in fact Islamic rules do not ban Muslims from using products made of any part of the pig. It only said pork is not halal and Muslims are not supposed to consume pork. Some open-minded Muslim scholars agreed that Muslims can use products such as paint brush made of pig bristles.

“In order not to have any disputes, by labelling the paint brush, hardware shops offer Muslims a choice. Of course, it is not an issue if the product is not labelled,’’ he said.

At times Asri sounds like a normal, sensible person.
At other times, Asri sounds like a Taliban-wannabe.

    1. When I read of Mr Hyde's talibany support of that alleged terrorist Naik fella and the poems he penned denigrating and running down the country's whole population of the Hindus, I know we have to be more careful of this hyde and sick guy, no matter how he sometimes recovered and become Dr Jekyll. Aiyoo...I used to like and admire him so much those times long time ago...

  3. Ah! Political Islam talk for Chinese audience consumption.

He should also consult Zakir Naik (Messiah) on this issue. Unfortunately, most of Zakir Naik's attention and sermons are focussed more on Indians and Hindus issues.

What's the main point of having JAKIM certified Halal approval if all eating establishments cannot put up their own self regulated Islamic Dos and Don'ts? Does he knows the processes and checks involved in getting a JAKIM Halal certification? I'm sure the Mufti knows very well.

As to the other issues not involving consumption (eating and drinking", why can't he just be straight forward and ask back those who are bigots whether they "Eat or Drink paintbrushes made from Pig's bristles or Human hair or Plastic"?

Political Islam or other religious political talks is a big topic in itself.

Do you know it allows lies, deceit, cheating, gerrymendering etc and when pointed out the flaws, guess what's the excuses.

So, are you Kaytee or Sin Chew Daily promoting political religions or preaching religions to targetted readers?
