Guan Eng's ostracization of Tan Seng Giaw - sad act of childishness, churlishness, cowardice

From Malaysiakini (extracts):

Last night, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng announced that Tan [Seng Giaw] will be replaced by incumbent Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng, while incumbent Subang Jaya assemblyperson Hannah Yeoh will be fielded in Segambut.

Tan, who is Public Accounts Committee deputy chairperson, said he did not attend last night's event held in Petaling Jaya because he was not invited.

Dr Tan served Kepong as a DAP MP for 36 years, has been a DAP member since 1979 (40 years), a senior DAP leader still serving his party as National Vice-chairman, was Selangor DAP chairman for five years, from 1982 to 1987.

Yet he wasn't even invited by the party to attend DAP's announcement of DAP Selangor's candidates for GE14?

Even if the DAP event involved a change of the guards adverse to Dr Tan, the DAP should have shown courtesy by inviting such a senior DAP person who would have graciously accepted the party's decisions.

Dr Tan's presence would have shown the DAP party is a mature one and still very united but alas, their discourtesy, snub or even hostility to Dr Tan was a terrible let-down, an indictment on Lim Guan Eng's childishness, churlishness and
cowardice.

Seemingly Dr Tan's biggest sin was to criticise Penang's environmental record in his Facebook last year.

T'was reported he wrote (usually in Malay, English, Chinese and Jawi):
"Going round Penang Island today, we find the coast is changing and Balik Pulau is less green. The population of 850,000 require houses and employment. The priority is to preserve the forest and the green."

Anything resembling a major disaster for Guan Eng?

Three days later, Guan Eng told a press conference at Komtar that the party had not been able to contact Dr Tan since early that year (2017). What was Guan Eng attempting to prove, following Dr Tan's mild criticism of Penang's green environment? Was Guan Eng that thin-skinned?

But Dr Tan denied he was incommunicado, saying he could always be contacted unless of course at that particular moment he was talking on his handphone.

Next, before anyone could count-down from 10 for the Rocket to blast off, Hew Kuan Yau, once known as the DAP 'Superman', asked Dr Tan Seng Giaw to step down from his position as national vice-chairman.

Interestingly, at that time Hew had already left the DAP following his scandalous “South China Sea is China’s. Don’t oppose China just because you are anti-Communist” which greatly embarrassed the DAP because it was seen as highly unpatriotic as Malaysia owns a couple of islets there whilst laying claims on others.

As Joceline Tan wrote: Hew did the right thing by parachuting out of DAP. He had become a liability and an embarrassment to his party. [...]

... his opinions on issues also represent the right-wing and chauvinistic segment of DAP. [...]

He is a sort of DAP version of Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali – loud, insensitive and unafraid to voice extremist views.

So, Who.T.F**k was Hew, an ex-DAP member, to call for Dr Tan to step down as DAP National Vice Chairman, just because of an unfavourable remark about Penang's green credentials?

But obviously, relations between Guan Eng and Dr Tan went south since that day in June 2017.

Continuing the above MKINI article, Dr Tan said ... he will not contest as an independent candidate in the coming general election.

"No, I will not stand as an independent candidate in Kepong. This is not the way how politics should be," Tan said when contacted by Malaysiakini.

Tan also pledged that he will not defect to another party.

Dr Tan has accepted with exceptional dignity the humongous disrespectful low-level ostracization of him, a very senior DAP leader, but the ill-mannered and disgracious method seems to be the modus operandi of the DAP young Turks and alleged evangelist coterie - see my post un-Chinese Tony Pua.

While I dislike LKS I never thought the day would come when I would also criticise Guan Eng, but it shows the bangsa. langsat hasn't fallen far from the langsat tree.

With this abominable treatment of Dr Tan Seng Giaw, I have lost my respect, support and admiration for the DAP.

  1. Hehehe. Didn't I tell you the DAP you knew is no more? If they wish to fill it with racist, evangelist, gangsters and sycophants, then so be it. This is their right. You also have the right not to be part of this maelstrom.

It would have been a very public humiliation session and a gross insult to be invited to a public event where your effective sacking ( by way of being dropped as candidate) was announced to the whole world ?

it would have been a magnificent event if Seng Giaw was the person who introduced Lip Eng to the press as his successor

  5. I suspect it is a slow purge of Buddhists/Taoists/Taoists/Sikhism/Hindus old timers leaders by the upcoming born again evangelists to ensure their hold on the leadership when their "God, Glory, Power" is attained.

Those seem a threat or a challenge to the evangelical leadership will be slowly squeezed out of the party. Just look at all the DAP members who are squeezed out so far. Are they not previously dedicated members esp those from Malacca and Penang.

The late Karpal Singh would have seen all these and squashed it if not for his early demise. With him gone, the DAP party is now left at the mercy of The Father, The Son and the Holy Evangelical members.

Behind this curtain, the twin evangelist cousins from Perak and young evangelical Turks from Selangor are moving the chest pieces.

Don't you know all these KayTee? It's like a Blur Sotong story above.

    2. "He's just a racist gangster thru and thru, pure and simple."

It is simply amazing when some are just unable to smell their own stench which is unbearably overwhelming ! but so quick to note it in others, however mild. This phenomena is beyond hypocrisy...it is a kind of sickness of the mind too.

So the jamal jamban guy is not racist, not gangster a few million times more than Superman Hew? What about Ibrahim katak with his hewing of the stupid crooked knife aka the keris every time when he runs down and threatens the Chinese ? Or even those at ministerial level...remember that Hisap guy who single-handedly managed to cost a huge chunk of lost votes in previous election with his keris waving and arrogant words to the Chinese ? That Noh fella, that crude Pahang menteri, that Nazri with his unsurpassed vulgar crassness, that Ismail Sabri, that arrogant minister for Titiwangsa, not to mention those buttocks gyrating army fellas....so many many more that's impossible to list here....these so called educated leaders openly threaten death and blood, show vulgar signs, threaten to take away citizenship, threaten prison terms...amaran ini, amaran itu...

At the very least, when one rotten apple like Hew starts to act out, he was made to leave the party which is much more than can be said for the other side, who in many cases, are even promoted and patted on their backs for their vile behaviour.

That is why we get to see ordinary folks like you going around unable to see any badass scoundrels from your own side but ONLY from the other side of the track, no matter if it is only a few sprinkling few. Poooorrrdahhh la.....

    6. u misunderstood. hadi said local council election lead to may 13. do u think so?

n i believe what that dap guy mean was if one did no wrong, he has nothing to worry under hudud the islamic law. but he never claim we shouldn't worry about hudud under pas or umno. we must learn the diff btw islamic law n pas/umno law.

      Delete
    7. Ah, yes I thought u were referring to Hudud. What Hadi meant from 513 was, unqualified persons might go up the political ladder but with questionable morals & ambitions. Case in point, Mat Sabu, Mahfuz Omar, Husam Musa et al were poised to wrestle control b4 being outed.
As for Hudud, then I will quote that DAP stalwart again; if there's no wrong done, then why worry.

    8. personally i never have problem with pas struggle for hudud, i think they have every rights to do so. but i have problem when they threatened with 513. n i dun know how msabu, mahfuz n husam have anything to do with 513.

last election almost every night i help out. n the only time i hear from tis sri serdang adun is when she wrote a letter to cancel a mines concert, which is not even locate at her constituency, but that is still fine. what i cant stand is when pas decide to work with umno, i feel like i am really a stupid fool. no more pas la brader. forget it.

      Delete
    9. What I meant with 513 means, unqualified persons might be elected and and if the demand for elections goes up to Mursyidul Am, then even this position can be threatened. Just saying that probably elections is not an Islam thing.

Anyways, your disillusionment wasn't PAS fault but your own. You identified with Pakatan, not PAS. And so when PAS walks alone, you thought it betrayed you but its the other way around. If you have never identified with PAS pre-Pakatan b4, then how do you relate to PAS in Pakatan and again not after post-Pakatan? PAS struggles have never changed but your perception did.

    11. not really, i vote pas when there is no pakatan, at a time when no chinese give their vote to pas, its late 80 or earlier 90 i cant recall. my support is more on their consistent n preseverence, not really on islamic value which i know very little. i think i am the very few that criticise chinese for our attitude of complain but endure umno/bn.

pas not walk alone, dun bull shit, its as clear as crystal for all to see. but its their choice, not abt betrayal, this happen all the time in politics, no big deal. in short, pas is just not that diff with any other political party in msia.

    2. Of course, UMNO's favourite DAP MPs are those who have lost the fire in the belly to hold the Ruling Party accountable for its transgressions and abuses.

Both Lee Lam Thye and Tan Seng Giaw reverted to being "service" aka Cuci Longkang MPs, which they actually did very well, thanks to very effective service centre staff and links to the bureaucracy , which they built up over a long time.

Of course elected Representatives have a duty to assist their constituents, especially the poor and less fortunate, with their difficulties in dealing with officialdom.
But that is not their primary responsibility.

When we elect Opposition MPs to Parliament, my primary expectation of them is how effectively they hold the Ruling Regime accountable for their policies and actions , both from within Parliament and outside.

In that I grade Tan Seng Giaw as a fail in his final term.

Lee Lam Thye as well in the end, but his case is long ago past, so I will leave him alone.

  8. Blur Sotong MCA just could not see the picture and take advantage of the seismic shift (word borrowed from LKS) in DAP and keep on going around talking about tunnels and bungalows and environment. It is not going to cut with Chinese voters.

MCA still have a lot of things to learn from Taikor Ah Jib about the lessons of Rule and Divide among your opponents.

In UMNO, you also have rightwing Islamists hidden among the secular Moslems chanting Agama, Bangsa, Negara but quietly riding the wagon towards PAS objective of an Islamic State. Former PM tried to quell that with his Islam Hadhari but failed and thus the rightwing Islamists became more powerful and prominent during Ah Jib Kor's time. His method of appeasing and controlling them is by corrupting them with largesse to keep them busy with worldly things instead of thinking about overthrowing him one day due to his lack of religious morality.

Now back to DAP in which Dear Leader LKS who don't have the largesse to quiet down critics of the leadership. The Evangelists have mostly taken over the leadership at the top and division levels but still lack the numbers.

So, a Purge is in order of non-evangelists within the party.

Does it not look like a two sided sword weaved by Guanyu towards the Long March of attaining "God, Glory and Power?"

The only thing which will stop the evangelist Long March is when they lose their trousers in this coming GE14.

I bet a revolution would then occur within the party and be the end of The Holy Father, Son and The Holy Evangelists".

    5. Well, bleeding heart with preset shallow & hateful mind.

In Colombia, wars used to happened daily between various factions - govt, intra parties, inter-idealogy setups & drug Lords. People r always living in fear in non-existent standard of living conditions.

There is this small non-descriptive region controlled by a local drug lord.

He earned his fortune through cocaine trades. Using the money, he built up a strong army of his own to protect his turf & to prevent other factions from trying to monkey a cut from his lucrative trade.

He provided a sense of 'sanctity' & peace to the surrounding villages bcoz of the ever important poppy crops.

The locals looked up to him for a sense of purpose in their daily harsh livings. Without his money, protection & 'administration', there WONT be a living at all!

With the signing of the peace accords initiated by President Santos, things start to change.

Territories protection is still needed but less urgent. Poppy crops r slowly been replaced by other cash crops.

Poppy was popular bcoz it grew easily with minimum caring especially in a war-torn settings. Besides, it could quickly converted into cash to buy weapon & foods.

With peace, weapon isn't the main consideration. Jobs, foods, education & infrastructure r. An urgent need to diversify out of cocaine production is initiated.

The old drug lord wants to migrate to more legitimate & ethical businesses. But within the family, there r some far-sighted children, there r also silverspoonfed of good-for-nothings.

The far-sighted sons/daughters know it's not a simple task. The hard-earned family fortune can be readily kaputted if they couldn't work out an amicable transitions.

So, taking good care of the family fortune IS the utmost consideration. It means builting upon the old man's years of hard-knocked, many a time bloody fightings determination. Along the way, there were collateral damages!

Amongst the transformation to a better future, they close an eye to their good-for-nothing siblings' many underhands.

I don't agree in total to their dealings, but under the circumstances it's the most appropriate approach to a difficult multi-dimensinal task.

Until the family business is stood on a solid foundation, anything CAN be negotiated.

The family is united. The fortune is maintained. The villagers r happy. And the positive feedback chain reaction can be maintained ad infinitum, hopefully & spread to other regions.

This is a micro reflection of the current China.

With yr kind of thinkings, the family & the village will be going to the dogs in less than 5 yrs!

  13. I will be brief with《孟子》. It's not a easy concept with lay man.

Yes, 民為貴,社稷次之,君為輕. But HOW to reach that stage is the point u have consistently missed out!

半途抽刀 & expects yr "小民的尊严" to flourish out of chaos! How naive!

Hence, my expansion of the quote. Apparently, u still don't understand.

Furthermore, authoritarian 皇权 is deeply embedded into the various schools of Chinese philosophy. Almost all of them emphasized benevolent authoritarian 皇权 as the bedrock foundation. So, when u quote the classics, u SHOULD bear that in mind!

The closest & earliest concept akinds to western democracy that I can find is in 《中庸》. But our ancestral sages never expanded any further on that idea. Perhaps, they didn't believe in one-man-one-vote as they theorised that human nature is all encompassingly selfish when working as a group.

Democracy has its chance after the fall of the Manchu dynasty. But it failed miserably with painful memories to the Chinese.

Chinese socialism has many early faults too. Through many painful adjustments, CCP has managed to turn the tide & bring peace & prosperity, most importantly a sense of pride, to the current Chinese al large.

U would be surprised that the current Chinese have an overwhelming supports given to the CCP!

U don't like authoritarian govt. Fine, that's yr choice. One forms one favourite idealogy through ones personal encounters.

Just like the Colombians I'm working with now. They don't like the local drug/militia lords. But they have to live with the system. Otherwise, there WILL be no live!

The drug/militia, though could be cruel at time, provides localised 'sanctity' of peace & stability to an otherwise chaotic environment.

Individual rights? Equal distribution of anything? U think u r living in Utopia ke!

But thing is changing, thanks to a courageous efforts of President Santos. Based on my understanding of yr writes, u WON'T agree with his various sopo approaches. But then, his efforts show amicable results in bringing liviable sensibilities to a war-torn country.

His sopo approaches brings him Nobel peace prize.

I keep using Colombia as an example, bcoz it really reminded me of the earlier China history & later Lanzhou personal encounters.

What's yr rant about CCP brings?
