“Loke should stop meddling as pig affairs minister; go repair your messy transport portfolio first”

SUCH was the reaction from PAS activist Nurul Islam Mohamed Yusoff to DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook who sought to re-assure the Chinese community of ample roast pig supply for every Chinese New Year (CNY) reunion dinner amid the Selangor pig farming controversy.
More importantly, China Press cited Loke who is also the Transport Minister having urged the public not to believe in unverified information over possible pork shortage in Malaysia as Selangor will be gradually halting pig farming in the state.
For the uninitiated, all 114 pig farms in the state face bleak future after Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah decreed that the state should embark on exporting pork instead to curb pollution and preserve social harmony.

“Even though pork prices have risen somewhat, the overall supply remains stable, hence there is still ample pork for traditional festivals,” he quipped to a roaring applause from nearly 1,000 attendees of a pre-CNY reunion dinner by a church group in his Seremban constituency.
“Everyone can be rest assured that Malaysia will not be lacking roast pig or pork. CNY would not feel like a Lunar New Year without roast pig or pork.”
But Nurul Islam who is the Selangor PAS Information Committee deputy chairman is least impressed that Loke meddled in roast pig matter when “his own transport portfolio is in a mess”.
ANTHONY LOKE, TUMPU KERJA MENTERI PENGANGKUTAN SUDAHLAH
Bila aku baca kenyataan ni, aku rasa pelik. Bila masa Menteri Kerja Raya tambah bidang tugas jaga hal ehwal babi?

“Before that, he was also the one who announced that UEC (Unified Examination Certificate) pupils only need to sit for the (compulsory) SPM BM (Bahasa Malaysia) and History paper. A versatile minister or DAP wants to control the Cabinet?” he jibed in a Facebook post.
Added the Shah Alam PAS information chief: “The impact of pigs on the Madani government is so great that ministers who’ve nothing to do with the matter are busy responding. But the relevant minister (presumably Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu) is silent on the matter.”
Nurul Islam’s reaction invited ridicule against Loke from the Islamist party’s backers with one commenter reckoning that he should switch to becoming a “Pig Affairs Minister”.

Others claimed that Loke is merely making a mountain out of a molehill given concern over “pork shortage or alcohol/mini skirt ban for the matter” has never arisen.

This is therefore “a political capital for DAP to attack its rivals” or “to show that the party is closely guarding the interest of swine consumers”.
Over at a Malaysiakini FB post on Loke’s re-assurance of ample pork supply, a few ‘ingenious’ feedback was detected.
One gave credence to the need for no disruption to pork supply with one commenter citing an unnamed “Olympic gold medallists from Borneo that no pork means no power”.
DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has sought to reassure the Chinese Malaysian community, as Chinese New Year celebrations loom amid controversy on pig farming in Selangor.
According to China Press, Loke (above) declared to nearly 1,000 attendees at a dinner banquet last night that the supply of pork in Malaysia is stable, and he would ensure there would be roast pig at every yearly reunion dinner.

Another who described Loke as a “Tai-Chi Master” hoped that “the rakyat get roast pork every year while DAP gets all the eggs in the upcoming GE16 (16th General Election)”.

One wondered who will get the AP (approved permit) to export pork in large quantity when pig farms cease their operations in Selangor.

At the end of the day, a longer-term solution is to learn from China its “sky-scraping hi-tech swine farm technology” or to perhaps shift the pig farms to more religiously open Sarawak. –Feb 15, 2026
