I never insulted Hindus,
Zamri insists
The independent preacher says he has not been instructed by any court to remove his social media post.
In a Facebook post, Zamri said he had only stated “facts and the truth”.
“No court has ruled that I have insulted anyone through my writings, nor is there a court order instructing me to remove my post.
“We follow the rule of law, not what Rayer demands,” he said, referring to Jelutong MP RSN Rayer.
The DAP man had called for Zamri’s arrest after the controversial post, which was apparently removed by Facebook, subsequently reappeared.
FMT understands that Facebook had restricted Malaysian users from accessing the post, which now requires the resubmission of users’ passwords to be read.
Rayer said Zamri should be charged in court for apparently defying the law by reposting a “seditious and irresponsible post”.
He also accused Zamri of being unrepentant as well as continuing to incite, instigate, and stoke racial and religious tension in Malaysia.
In his post, Zamri said that many Hindus themselves had described those performing the kavadi ritual during Thaipusam as being “possessed and drunk on toddy”. He asked why that was not regarded as insulting.
His remarks followed the controversy surrounding three Era FM radio hosts who were widely criticised for mocking the same ritual.
