Siti Kasim queries PMX’s “strange” statement on Akmal’s arrest
LAWYER and social activist Siti Kasim opined that it was strange for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to say that UMNO Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Salleh was only called in for questioning as opposed to being detained or arrested by the cops in Kota Kinabalu.
The outspoken state assemblyman for Merlimau has been at the centre of the KK Mart-socks controversy with calls for boycotts and making all forms of inflammatory remarks that have caused great alarm among ordinary Malaysians.
Amidst all the brouhaha, the police finally deemed it appropriate to step in, weeks after the sword-wielding politician has been rabble-rousing, increasing the temperature in an already heated narrative.
The legal eagle’s post on X (formerly known as Twitter) generated a lively discussion. Here are some of the comments.
Some netizens with more conspiratorial minds posited why PMX was so quick to make this statement when he had been silent on the issue for so long, doing little to quell rising tensions.
Some opined that it was because the Madani administration was beholden to UMNO and its many warlords.
Some said that PMX was still an UMNO man at heart.
More than a few pointedly asked why the double standards when certain netizens were being hauled up for merely making statements on social media.
Of course, many derided PMX for what they see as ineffective leadership at a time when the nation is crying out for one.
One netizen’s pictorial response perhaps summed up what many Malaysians are feeling right now. – April 7, 2024
