MCA Youth information chief Neow Choo Seong called out PKR Youth chief Adam Adli for suggesting MCA would tarnish the image of PH’s candidate ahead of the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

PETALING JAYA: An MCA Youth leader has slammed Adam Adli for suggesting that the party will campaign in a manner that would tarnish the image of Pakatan Harapan’s candidate ahead of the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

MCA Youth information chief Neow Choo Seong was responding to the PKR Youth chief, who yesterday called for parties in the unity government to unite for the by-election campaign period, and said that “a party should not campaign to disrupt or tarnish the name of the candidate or parties involved”.

“(They) shouldn’t talk about unity only when they need us, such as during by-elections or state elections,” Neow said in a statement.

“If they were sincere, there would surely be various efforts and steps to strengthen camaraderie and the spirit of cooperation among the parties in the unity government since it was formed.

“However, this didn’t happen and some (of them) often engage in provocative behaviour.”

MCA has been firm about skipping the campaign for Pakatan Harapan’s candidate for the by-election, Pang Sock Tao of DAP.

Neow said there are more pressing issues to be addressed and that it would be better for “those involved to focus entirely on the campaign rather than MCA’s position”.

The Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election will see a four-cornered fight featuring Pang, Perikatan Nasional’s Khairul Azhari Saut, Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s Hafizah Zainuddin and independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin.

The seat fell vacant following the death of three-term DAP assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong on March 21 from cancer.

Polling day has been set for May 11, with early voting taking place on May 7.
