PETALING JAYA: PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli and former Sapura Energy Bhd (SEB) CEO Shahril Shamsuddin have come to an amicable settlement in a defamation suit filed by Shahril following a mandatory mediation.

In the lawsuit filed in May 2022, Shahril claimed that Rafizi had made libellous statements concerning his remuneration.

In a joint statement by the duo today, Rafizi said he agreed to remove all the relevant statements from his website and social media channels.

Shahril would withdraw the defamation suit against Rafizi and, in return, the Pandan MP agreed not to make any further statements, directly or indirectly, concerning the subject matter of the suit.

There was no mention of when the settlement was reached, or its details.

It said both parties agreed not to prolong the issue to allow the GLC to focus on its transformation exercise and business activities.

“The parties further recognise that the statements made by Rafizi Ramli leading to the defamation suit were in response to statements made by the former prime minister, namely Najib Razak.

“As Najib Razak is no longer the prime minister of Malaysia, the parties recognise that there is no need to further politicise the issue relating to SEB,” the statement read.
