Abil Qaiz Faizal Fazrin, 3, was taken to Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia in Kubang Kerian but died on Monday.

PETALING JAYA: A three-year-old boy in Kelantan has died of heatstroke, the first reported case since the recent heat wave began.

Abil Qaiz Faizal Fazrin was reportedly observed to be vomiting before he was found unconscious in his grandfather’s car last Friday.

He was rushed to the Bachok health clinic but later died during follow-up treatment at Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia in Kubang Kerian on Monday.

His grandmother, Zainun Mat Amin, said the boy was playing with his two siblings inside their grandfather’s Proton Iswara, parked at the back of the house in Kampung Teluk, Bachok.

She added that his siblings wanted to go home, but Abil Qaiz insisted on remaining in the car. “The child was probably accidentally locked inside the car and he was only discovered in a semi-conscious state nearly two hours later,” Zainun said.

Kelantan health director Dr Zaini Husin confirmed that the child died due to heatstroke at 11.20am on Monday.

A second heatstroke-related death was reported by the National Disaster Management Agency today but further details were unavailable.
