PAS confident of taking Selangor in state polls

PETALING JAYA: Selangor PAS chief Ahmad Yunus Hairi says he is confident that Perikatan Nasional (PN) stands a good chance of winning in Selangor at the upcoming state elections.
He said this was based on feedback from voters who said they were “tired of the lies and false promises” from the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government.
“PH is viewed as being unable to represent the needs of the public in their administration, especially since working with Barisan Nasional (BN), who they previously accused of being kleptocrats,” he said in a statement.
Yunus said that in the last general election (GE15), PH and BN lost six parliamentary seats in the state to PN, with BN failing to win any seat at all.
He said the current Selangor government has also failed to solve the problems faced by the people such as the high cost of living, lack of job opportunities, insufficient housing, flooding, water pollution, and poor internet coverage.
“The people of Selangor want a government that has integrity and can look after them while developing the state.
“They don’t want a populist government that falls short of delivering the promises they make,” he said.
Yunus pointed out that PAS was confident the “green wave” will help PN replace the current government by promising a clean and stable administration for the state. Selangor has been under PH since 2008.
In GE15, the “green wave” saw PN win a vast majority of the parliamentary seats across the northern states in the peninsula, namely Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu. Perlis also saw the state elections take place in GE15 with PN winning all but one of the state seats.
Last week, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said he is confident the “green wave” will continue in the upcoming state elections.
Six states – Pakatan Harapan-controlled Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan, as well as PAS-led Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu – will hold state elections this year.
