Spat over Hadi's 'charity' remark takes mental health twist
The verbal scrimmage between Umno and PAS over cash handouts to voters during the last general election has taken a mental health twist.
Nur Jazlan Mohamed struck a nerve when he diagnosed PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang as suffering from “extreme political depression”.
However, PAS Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari claimed it was the Johor Umno deputy chairperson who is suffering from a psychological disorder.
“I suggest that Umno members collect funds, to contribute (or donate) to him to undergo a mental examination… (I am) concerned that if he continues like this, his own friends would sideline him,” he added, in a statement published in Harakah.
On the same note, Fadhli hoped that Nur Jazlan would be elected as Johor Umno chairperson stating: “It would make it easier for us to capture the state in future.”
He recalled how the Umno supreme council member was forced to “swim against the current” to defend his party president, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

This is after Johor Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi urged Zahid to step down over BN’s dismal performance in the general election and Johor Umno chief Hasni Mohammad wanted the top two posts in Umno to be contested.
Referring to Nur Jazlan’s claim that Johor Umno did not hold discussions on the contest for the number one and number two posts, Fadhli said: “He (Nur Jazlan) claims Johor Umno did not meet (on this issue). Is this true? Or was he sidelined (not invited to the meeting)?”
“Pity this ‘makhluk’ (being), trying his best to shine.
“His party leaders who have power in the government should give him something as payment for his incessant barking. If there is no meat, even a bone would do,” he added.
Earlier, Nur Jazlan criticised Hadi for claiming that the cash handouts to voters in Terengganu before the last general election were “charitable acts”.
On Sunday, Zahid called the PAS president a “hypocrite”, saying: “It’s charity if Hadi does it but corruption if others do it.”
He also branded Hadi as a "political ulama" and urged the latter not to change Islamic rules as he pleases.

Hadi’s defence was made in response to Terengganu Umno filing election petitions under the Election Offences Act 1954 to annul the 15th general election results for the PAS-held seats of Kuala Terengganu, Marang and Kemaman.
Hadi is the incumbent MP for Marang.
Terengganu Umno had accused PAS of buying votes through financial aid distribution in the form of i-Pension, i-Belia and i-Student initiatives, from the state government.
MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki, who described the cash handouts as potential vote-buying, said the anti-graft watchdog has opened several investigation papers on the matter.
