Announce resignations of office bearers, Pejuang urged
Marzuki Yahya says he has resigned as Pejuang’s deputy president but remains a member.
PETALING JAYA: Former Pejuang deputy president Marzuki Yahya has urged the party to announce the resignations of its office bearers.
“The party should also announce the number of people who resigned (from their posts) after Dr Mahathir Mohamad resigned as chairman,” he told FMT.
In December, Mahathir resigned as Pejuang chairman, with party insiders claiming that his family wanted him to take a step back from politics in the aftermath of the general election (GE15).
Marzuki said he and a number of other leaders had submitted their resignation letters as office bearers to Pejuang secretary-general Amiruddin Hamzah after Mahathir quit the post.
“We have given our letters to the secretary-general. It’s not for us to announce but the secretary-general,” he said.
Marzuki said he was still a Pejuang member and the secretary-general of the Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) coalition which Pejuang was a part of.
On Saturday, Pejuang president Mukhriz Mahathir announced the party’s withdrawal from GTA to focus on strengthening the party.
Pejuang suffered a heavy defeat in GE15, with all their candidates, including Mahathir and Mukhriz, losing their deposits.

Does it really matter?
ReplyDeletePejuang is only prolonging the inevitable.
I strongly recommend that members petition the party to close shop to save money and embarrasement.
As it is, Pejuang has the dubious honour of having ALL its members lose in an election and losing their deposits too.
I don't recall any such thing happening to any party in the past. And more importantly, we are not talking about a party of 3 or 4 members taking part in the polls.
