Nurul Izzah opens up about miscarriage

Former Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar took to social media to share that she recently suffered a miscarriage of her fourth child.

In a Facebook post last night, Nurul Izzah (above) said she lost her unborn child whilst carrying out her duties, including travelling between Penang and Putrajaya.

Through a lengthy post, the prime minister’s daughter said the first time she and her child first “hugged” was during the 15th general election.

“The little boot is gone. Surely, we belong to Allah and verily to Him do we return.

“I think about all these women who went through similar experiences, each with their own individual experiences,” Nurul Izzah added.

She offered support to those who suffer a similar fate.

‘Healing is a journey’

“And the splendour of joy and happiness - it lurks in every corner - whether it’s the smiles of Safiyah, Harith and Yu Zhou - or in the warm embrace of my own papa and mama, every moment counts.

“Happy homecoming in every warmth you experience. Healing is a journey - and if you need to take some time to breathe in the moment - just do it. Before the next chapter in life begins anew, InshaaAllah,” she wrote.

Nurul Izzah married Khazanah Research Institute senior research associate Yin Shao Loong in August last year. She has three children from a previous marriage.

Several leaders have extended their condolences, including Deputy Finance Minister Steven Sim, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh and Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin.

  1. My sympathy to Nurul, as I can share my loss from a miscarried child from so many years, decades ago.
Nurul has reached the age where, while she can still conceive a child, the risk of miscarriage and pregnancy complications increases substantially.

It is ultimately the couple's decision , but they need to consider this carefully.
