GEORGE TOWN: DAP’s Lim Guan Eng poured cold water on Perikatan Nasional’s ambition to win big in the coming Penang state elections, saying the opposition coalition can continue to “dream on”.

He was commenting on the claim by PN’s Shahidan Kassim on Facebook that the coalition was ready to “rock” the state in the coming state polls, given the rising PN-PAS wave.

“Let him be, let him dream as much as he wants,” Lim told reporters on the sidelines of the Penang DAP Chinese New Year open house at SJK(C) Shang Wu here.

Shahidan, who is also Arau MP, had said the PN coalition was set to retain Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.

“God willing, PN and PAS will take control of these states. We will move to Negeri Sembilan in peace; we have a strategy.

“And we will rock Penang. This is because we are on a jihad to ensure our efforts are visible,” he said.

There are 40 seats in the assembly. Currently, PH has 33 seats — more than the two-thirds majority.

DAP holds 19 seats while PKR holds 12 and Amanah two. On the other side of the aisle, Bersatu has four seats, Umno two and PAS one.

The present Penang state assembly will come to an end on Aug 2 and elections must be held within two months after that, as per the state constitution.

In the recent general election, the parliamentary seats of Permatang Pauh, Kepala Batas and Tasek Gelugor fell to PN, and this has caused some unease among PH supporters.
