Report: PM mulling over three candidates for AG post
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is considering three candidates for the attorney-general post.
According to The Star, the three - all judges - are Ahmad Fairuz Zainol Abidin, Kamaludin Md Said and Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh.
Ahmad Fairuz and Kamaludin had previously served in the Attorney-General's Chambers before being appointed as judges.
Additionally, Ahmad Fairuz was also a former deputy chief executive of the Securities Commission.
Currently, Ahmad Fairuz serves as a High Court judge while Kamaludin is a Court of Appeals judge.
Wan Ahmad Farid was the only candidate with political experience. He used to serve as deputy home minister between March 2008 and April 2009.
He quit Umno in 2013 and was appointed as a judicial commissioner in 2015. He is currently a High Court judge.
The current Attorney-General Idrus Harun, 67, has served three prime ministers since being appointed to the post on March 6, 2020.
Why does the AG candidate always (with the exception of Tommy Thomas) have to come from UMNO-connected figures ?
ReplyDeleteThat is the root cause why Malaysia has always seen speedy prosecutions of people seen as opposed to the UMNO , and long-delays, NFA and DNAA for senior UMNO figures.
The only exceptions so far being Najib, Zahid Hamidi - all prosecuted under Tommy Thomas as AG.
