Pejuang has no future in Malaysian politics, say analysts
An analyst said it was unlikely that Pejuang would be welcomed in another coalition.
PETALING JAYA: Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s Pejuang has no future in Malaysian politics and the party is almost irrelevant, says a political analyst.
“They (Pejuang) lost in all the seats they contested in the 15th general election (GE15) and even Dr Mahathir lost his seat in Langkawi,” said Universiti Teknologi Malaysia’s Mazlan Ali.
Mazlan said it was unlikely that Pejuang would be welcomed in another coalition, including Perikatan Nasional.
“PN has already received strong support from the Malays. The cooperation between Bersatu and PAS is enough and they don’t need Pejuang.
“I don’t think Pejuang can add value to PN in any way,” he told FMT.
Meanwhile, Oh Ei Sun, of the Singapore Institute of International Affairs, also believed that Pejuang had become irrelevant.
“They may wish to work with another coalition, but it does not appear that either of the two main coalitions (Pakatan Harapan and PN) would like to work with them.”
This, he said, was because Pejuang could not add any value to the coalitions.
Last week, Selangor Pejuang chief Harumaini Omar said they wanted to form alliances with other parties aligned with their mission to fight corruption, abuse of power and kleptocracy.
Pejuang’s candidates, including its chairman, Dr Mahathir, lost in all the 125 seats they contested in GE15. Every candidate also lost their deposit.

I found it very comical that Selangor Pejuang chief Harumaini Omar thinks his party is in demand. Even a coalition of the same ketuanan bend like PN has not seen it fit to bother with it.
ReplyDeleteAs I said before, Pejuang should just close shop. The only thing that surprised me was the old buffon being comprehensively told to FO when he also lost his deposit at GE15
This must have stung.
Mahathir , if he doesn't retire , should just join PN.
ReplyDeleteThey are closest to his Race and Religion politics.
