Parties in Anwar's govt to sign agreement soon - BN sec-gen

Several parties that support the federal government led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will sign a coalition agreement soon, according to BN secretary-general Zambry Abdul Kadir.

He reportedly said the matter had gone through a series of discussions and all parties involved agreed to a draft proposal of the agreement.

"The most important thing is how we create this coalition agreement for all parties to come together, that is very important. Otherwise, we won’t have this kind of coalition. We have to take care of every party in this coalition government.

"We have had several series of discussions and I can say at this stage we have almost come to a final draft of that agreement,” he said during a press conference in Putrajaya, as reported by Malay Mail.

The press conference was Zambry's (above) first as foreign affairs minister.

According to him, more than three parties in the government would join the coalition, which is aimed at ensuring the stability of the new administration.

This was important to ensure the government can last for a full term, he said, and enable them to fulfil pledges made by the parties in their respective election manifestos.

"It will definitely involve several parties, not only two, I’d say more than two, meaning maybe three or four. All parties will sign together."

The present government led by Anwar comprises Pakatan Harapan, BN, Gabungan Parti Sarawak, and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah.

According to Anwar, his government also included Warisan, Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM), and independent lawmakers.

Based on this, there are 148 MPs backing Anwar’s premiership, meaning he has a supermajority in Parliament.
