KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 14 — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will be going to Kelantan tomorrow to tackle the state’s annual monsoonal floods, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today.

He added that this is so that preparations can be made before the floods turn into a major disaster.

“Ahmad Zahid has chaired a meeting and conducted surveys, and will go to Kelantan tomorrow to try to identify problems and take early measures and steps,” Anwar told a news conference in Putrajaya that was also live-streamed on his Facebook page this afternoon.

Three weeks ago, flooding in Rantau Panjang and Pasir Mas caused 401 people from 115 families to evacuate their homes, Bernama reported.

In September, Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department director Zainal Madasin identified 595 hotspots in seven districts in the flood-prone state, most of them in rural areas.

The locations were reportedly those that were most at risk of flooding during the north-east monsoon season that strikes the peninsula at the end of the year, usually starting from September.
