“Stop the blame game”: Kedah MB mocked for blaming Pakatan over state water woes
AFTER receiving much backlash for not being able to resolve Kedah’s water crisis, Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor decided to use the “time-tested narrative” to defend his administration; blame Pakatan Harapan.
According to Bernama today, Sanusi claimed that a change in policy by the previous Kedah state government is to be blamed for the delay in plans to upgrade five water treatment plants (LRA) in the state.
“If it had not been changed, then efforts to overcome water supply problems in the state could have been implemented earlier and, probably, would not have lasted until now.
“It was only after a change in the leadership of the state government in May 2020 that efforts to overcome the problem were reactivated.
“Since then, more concrete and comprehensive solutions have been implemented in accordance with the procedures and advice of the Environment and Water Ministry and National Water Services Commission,” the PAS leader was reported as saying.
However, netizens were unimpressed with Sanusi blaming previous leaders for his shortcomings and took him to task.
“PAS is very good to blame everyone, everybody except themselves. Why can’t they starts from others who left it as he says?” asked user Kelvin Lee.
Echoing his sentiments, user Biby Chow added:
Netizen Melvin Goh jested:
Since early this year, several areas in Kedah especially the rural areas have faced constant water supply disruptions, leaving many residents turning to alternative sources.
The National Water Service Commission (SPAN) spokesperson Mohd Fazil Ismail said in April that in general the water supply is under control except in areas such as Baling located at the end of the pipes and those at higher elevations.
“When the dry season arrives, there is an increase in areas which face water disruptions.
“The problem is that ‘community water’ users are affected during the dry season, where there is less water from nearby hills,” MalaysiaNow reported him as saying back then.
The buck stops at you
Two days ago, the combative Sanusi urged Kedahans to be patient and give him time to resolve water problems plaguing several parts of the state.
However, the MB courted public anger when he attempted to downplay the issue by saying that even the developed state of Selangor is plagued with water disruptions.
On that note, user Brendan Chin reminded Sanusi that he had been helming the state for two years and has had enough time to deal with the situation.
“PH left the Fed Govt more than 2 years ago & that’s how long this fella has been handling Kedah. And he still blames PH for everything & anything that goes wrong?” – May 10, 2022
