No need for disciplinary action against Ku Li, says Umno leader
Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah had no specific agenda for his meeting with Amanah leaders in late April, says Umno Supreme Council member Jalaluddin Alias.
PETALING JAYA: There is no need for any disciplinary action against Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah over a meeting with some Kelantan opposition leaders, says an Umno leader.
Umno Supreme Council member Jalaluddin Alias considered the meeting to be normal and that there was no specific agenda from Tengku Razaleigh, who is also known as Ku Li.
“We do not know the actual content of the discussion. Anyone can meet with anyone in conjunction with Ramadan, Aidilfitri and so on. It is common for various perceptions to arise, especially when the next general election is coming up.
“I think it is not appropriate to make any comments in relation to the meeting,” he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.
On April 26, a meeting between Tengku Razaleigh and several Amanah Kelantan leaders led to speculation that he was rounding up support to dislodge PAS from the Kelantan government at the next general election.
However, Jalaluddin said if the discussion was on a specific agenda to bring down Barisan Nasional (BN), then the party cannot remain silent.
“This should only happen if there is proof. It will not be appropriate for Umno to take action if this is just an allegation.
“All of this is just talk and does not prove that this matter is true. Umno will usually take action when there is clear evidence and will make decisions based on the party’s constitution,” he said.
Tengku Razaleigh has been an elected representative for 53 years. He was elected to the Kelantan state assembly seat of Ulu Kelantan Barat in 1969. Five years later, he was elected MP for Ulu Kelantan, later renamed Gua Musang, which he has represented continuously for 48 years.

Ku Li had never, and will not ever have enough support to be the Top UMNO leader. On the other hand, his status, especially in the East Coast states is virtually impregnable. UMNO would be carrying out self-destruction to attempt to discipline Ku LI.
