Knives out between former allies Tian Chua and Prabakaran

Knives out between former allies Tian Chua and Prabakaran

The once rosy relationship between PKR's Batu MP P Prabakaran and his predecessor Tian Chua seems to be hitting the skids after Chua accused the former of spreading misinformation via several tweets.

Chua (above, right) said there was an element of deception when Prabakaran posted a picture of him attending a breaking fast ceremony organised by Bersatu with a misleading caption.

“It is unethical when he spread lies about me attending a Bersatu iftar last Ramadan. The fact is that the ceremony took place in 2021.

“It was organised by NGOs in collaboration with the Federal Territories Ministry. Praba's own team member, Stephen Niles, also attended the so-called 'dinner of traitors'," Chua said via Facebook.

Chua reminded the public that Prabakaran initially signed up to contest as an independent candidate running against PKR in the 14th general election.

“The reason he contested against Pakatan Harapan is unknown to us until now. Anyway, I chose to support him (in 2018),” he added.

After Chua was disqualified from defending his seat, PKR 'adopted' Prabakaran as its candidate and he joined the party. Chua, on the other hand, was more associated with former PKR deputy president Azmin Ali’s camp that brought down the government through the Sheraton Move, even though he did not leave the party.

"In the party election this time, he has decided to oppose me (as Batu chief). I also welcome it because it is a manifestation of the party's internal democracy.

“I hope Praba, as a newcomer in PKR, learns about the party's principles from older leaders.

"Healthy competition is fine. Please do not introduce a political culture of deception and personal attacks to our beloved party,” Chua added.
