TASEK GELUGOR: Former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Dzulkifli Ahmad says he has no objection to standing in the next general election for the Tasek Gelugor parliamentary seat “if there are calls from the people”.

“Actually, I am not involved in politics and am not a member of any political party.

“Nevertheless, I have no objections if there are calls from the people of Tasek Gelugor for me to contest,” Bernama reported him as saying after a charity event.

“However, whether I will be involved in the general election or not, I will continue to serve the residents in the Tasek Gelugor area because this is my hometown.”

Dzulkifli carried out the programme together with popular preacher Ustaz Abdullah Khairi (UAK) in front of Maahad Tahfiz As Syafee (Matas) here.

At the programme, Dzulkifli assisted the people by giving away 1.2 tonnes of ikan kembung (mackerel) to over 1,000 residents from the constituency.

He said the fish was distributed in 1kg packets to the local residents and passersby.

“The whole aim of the programme is to lighten the burden of the local residents to a certain extent following the hike in the prices of goods, including fish, at the moment.

“This contribution is from my non-governmental organisation (NGO). God willing, my NGO will hold programmes like this on a regular basis to ease the burden of the people, especially in Tasek Gelugor.”

He said he was born in Kepala Batas, near here before his father moved to Tasek Gelugor.

“So, this place is also my hometown. That is why I want to go down to the ground to lighten the burden of the residents here.”

Dzulkifli was appointed as the MACC chief on Aug 1, 2016 and resigned in May 2018 after Pakatan Harapan formed the government following its victory in the 14th general election.
