GEORGE TOWN – Penang Pakatan Harapan (PH) has been rapped for claiming to have fulfilled 90% of its manifesto for the 14th general election, as a former DAP leader said the boast only reveals the coalition’s own shortcomings and weaknesses in ruling the state.
Penang Warisan coordinator Jeff Ooi Chuan Aun said the PH state government had yet to show the people other bigger achievements, such as a timeline for the Penang Transport Master Plan megaproject and the controversial undersea tunnel project.
“This megaproject has been announced for a long time, but until now the state government has not given any road plan, or at least announced a funding plan for the projects.
For example, the undersea tunnel project. The people of Penang are now often the subject of ridicule, because this project has not started since 11 years ago,” he told The Vibes.
Ooi is a former PH lawmaker, having been DAP’s Jelutong MP from 2008 to 2018.
He and a few other state DAP personalities joined Warisan in January.
On Monday, the PH state government claimed to have implemented 90% of its manifesto for the last general election.
Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who is the state DAP chief, had said that a total of 54 promises had been fulfilled and 12 were being implemented, while two more would not be implemented due to an overlap with the federal government’s powers.
Chow said he was confident that the remaining 10% of the manifesto would be achieved under the state government’s leadership.

Ooi said the achievements of the PH government, including when it was earlier known as Pakatan Rakyat, for 14 years in governing the state could not match the leadership of previous chief ministers Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu and Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon.
For 21 years under Lim’s administration, he had built a lot of infrastructure such as the Penang Bridge and Komtar, and brought in many big investors such as Intel.
“At that time, all the people could enjoy the development. But in the 14 years that DAP has ruled Penang, have the people felt the same way?”
Meanwhile, Gerakan deputy president Oh Tong Keong said the state government has still failed to provide housing facilities, especially for low-income people.
He said the claim that 90% of the promises in the PH manifesto had been fulfilled was just empty talk and that in reality, it could not be enjoyed by the people.
“During the Barisan Nasional administration, we provided a good housing system so that the poor could buy homes,” he said.
“A RM300,000 house is not a house that the people can afford. They claim to have fulfilled their promise by 90%, but we know that in fact it is nothing.” – The Vibes, May 11, 2022

They say "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned", and though Jeff Ooi is hardly a woman, wakakaka, I would apply that saying to him as "Hell hath no fury as a DAP member used but marginalised". Yes, Jeff is certainly pissed off with his previous party, the DAP.
Jeff Ooi during his blogging days
But first a question: Should Jeff be considered a "frog"? I would opine "No" because he was NOT a DAP MP who leapt across to Warisan; Jeff was "shaking legs" as a DAP marginalised member and ended up being an occasional political analyst-columnist for a Chinese newspaper.
Thus I don't blame him for joining Warisan since the DAP no longer had any use of him (after his role as a Chief of Staff for Penang DAP since the party's remarkable victory in 2008), I suppose his downfall came about partly because of his acerbic tongue, wakakaka. I suspected he fell out of grace with the DAP since (or because of) the 'kucing kurap' snide remark at a civil servant, wakakaka - you know how Guanee and his inner coterie were sh*t-scared of "spooking the Melayus", as Commander S Thayaparan (MKINI columnist) frequently and sarcastically remarked, thus a loose-cannon Jeff had to hidden out of sight, and not be allowed to "spook the Melayus" anymore, wakakaka again.
My only wonderment at Jeff has been his bizarre choice in joining an East Malaysian-speciality party like Warisan, but in the Malaysian political world there are all kinds, I suppose, wakakaka.
I wonder whether most of you were aware of Jeff's connection with Gerakan Party's Dr Lim Keng Yaik, touted as Jeff's 'godfather' prior to 2008, hence we shouldn't be surprised by Jeff's praise of previous Gerakan Party chief ministers like Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu and Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon. I agree with Jeff on his praise of innovative Dr Lim but I don't rate Dr Koh highly because of his passiveness as the CM towards his rather assertive UMNO DCM. Under Dr Koh the development of Penang was rather shambolic but there's no denying his relationship with UMNO was excellent.

During those days, Jeff was Malaysia's most famous blogger and in his role, played havoc with Gerakan's real rival the MCA (nay, not the DAP as you would think). His main target then was poor Ong Ka Ting, wakakaka. In fact I became a blogger too because I was inspired by and admired Jeff's work. I suppose Jeff didn't return to Gerakan because (i) having abandoned his godfather Lim KY, it's a bit shameful to return, and (ii) Gerakan doesn't seem to have much of a future (its only bright spark being Baljit Singh whose work I do like and admire - I hope he leaves Gerakan and joins a party with a future).
Good luck to Jeff - my best to him for old times' sake.
