AYER KEROH: MCA president Wee Ka Siong has hit out at DAP’s Lim Guan Eng for accusing Barisan Nasional (BN) of playing up racial and extremist sentiments over the Kedah government’s ban on 4D outlets.
Wee said what happened in Kedah had nothing to do with BN as it came under the purview of the Kedah government.
For the record, he said, one Umno assemblyman, Suraya Yaacob, was part of the Perikatan Nasional-led Kedah government.
Wee told a press conference he found it “amusing” that Lim was accusing BN of playing up racial sentiments when two Kedah Amanah assemblymen backed the ban.
It was reported that Amanah’s Ismail Salleh and Mohd Asmirul Anuar Aris had got up after PAS backbencher Mohd Azam Abdul Samad asked members of the Kedah state assembly to stand if they supported the state government’s move to ban 4D outlets.
The duo have been asked by the state opposition leader Phahrolrazi Zawawi to explain themselves.
Wee said he had made clear his stand on the matter.
“In a plural society, there are ‘freedoms’ that are given to non-Muslims, for Muslims it (gambling) is haram. To take action against Muslims who gamble, that’s fine.
“But freedom should be given (to non-Muslims). I find it amusing that Amanah openly stated (their support) but we are accused of being extremists.”
Asked if MCA would seek a meeting with the Kedah menteri besar over the matter, he said the party’s focus now was on the Melaka election.
Kedah menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor had said local councils would not renew the business licences of gaming outlets in the state, effectively banning four-digit operators such as Magnum 4D, Sports Toto and Damacai.
He said the negative impact of gaming operations and the scourge of gambling outweighed the benefits of continuing with the activity just to let them keep their businesses and jobs.

ReplyDeleteDei Wee KHAT Siong, MCA is very much a supporter of the Perikatan Nasional government, Federal as well as States.
You can't simply evade and pretend dunno when an adverse issue comes up.
What a bunch of hypocrites, MCA.
