Umno grassroots were duped by Bersatu in GE14, says Zahid

Both the Umno Supreme Council and party grassroots have agreed not to work with Bersatu in the next general election.

PETALING JAYA: Umno grassroots were duped by lies spewed by Bersatu in the last general election (GE14) and were now remorseful, party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said in explaining why the party was against working with them.

Zahid said the grassroots were now determined to rectify the situation by helping Umno regain its dominance in the next general election (GE15).

He said the grassroots were fully convinced that the party would rise again under Barisan Nasional (BN).

“Bersatu is a splinter party of Umno which was formed by those who failed in their attempt to take command of Umno for their personal interest.

“They then collaborated with Pakatan Harapan to topple Umno through propaganda and lies,” he said in a Facebook post.

He went on to say that the Umno grassroots have witnessed how dishonest Bersatu was when it attempted to “buy and steal” Umno members.

“In short, Bersatu need not be hypocritical and play innocent when it comes to a collaboration as the people are aware of the reality of it all.”

Zahid’s latest post comes in the wake of the political crisis in Melaka which has led to the dissolution of its state assembly, paving the way for a state election.

It also comes days after Zahid said that the party’s decision not to work with Bersatu in the next general election is final, adding that it was made by both the Supreme Council and the grassroots at the 2020 annual general assembly, which was held in March this year.
