Malacca election: PKR to contest 11, Amanah 9, DAP 8

Pakatan Harapan top leadership has decided that PKR will be contesting 11 of the 28 state seats in the upcoming Malacca state election.

Its chairperson Anwar Ibrahim told a presser this morning that two other Harapan components - Amanah and DAP - will contest nine and eight seats respectively.

"We have decided to finalise allocation of seats to be contested in the state election. The decision we have reached is that PKR will contest 11 seats, Amanah nine, and DAP eight," he said.

Anwar, however, did not reveal whether the opposition coalition had reached an agreement on which seats the respective parties would take on.

He said that a meeting to discuss the seat allocation has also reached a decision on how many parliamentary seats each party would contest in the next general election.

According to Anwar, PKR and Amanah will contest two seats each like what they did in the last general election in 2018, while DAP which contested only one then would get to take on another seat.

"The next general election would see DAP taking on the Alor Gajah parliamentary seat again.

"It was given to Bersatu to contest in GE14. So now it will go back to DAP," Anwar said.

Bersatu is a former Harapan component which quit the coalition last year.

  1. Alor Gajah , my old haunt, is a mixed, Malay majority seat, tricky for DAP to win.

However, if both BN and Bersatu contest there, it's fun and games.

  2. I hope DAP will win all 8. I don't think PKR will win more than 5, Amanah maybe 2. So by right DAP should get Chief Minister post. Why not, today only in Penang but they are doing a great job. As the party with the most seats in Parlimen they deserve to run a second state.
